Frankenstein Book Cover Project
The goal of this project was to create a 10"x12" minimalistic cover for a book of my choice. For this illustration, I chose to make a book cover for Frankenstein by Mary Shelley.
The main elements I have included in this illustration are Dr. Victor Frankenstein, a gothic castle, and Frankenstein’s monster (in the form of a silhouette). I wanted to create an illustration that would feature elements that screams "Frankenstein" without giving away any of the story. In fact there isn't even any mention of a gothic castle in the story, but for most people, "Frankenstein's Castle" is a familiar term.
Here are my thumbnail sketches for this project. The goal was to create a minimalistic, but effective composition.
Most of the shapes used in the final was directly traced off the thumbnail sketch.
The final illustration consists of an establishing shot framed by the monster's silhouette.
